Leadership and Growth

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians that we are the body of Christ with many parts and members.  This event will help us explore ways to be effective in planning and leading those "members" around us right now and also to think about the future.  What leadership and "member" role you will have in 5 or 10 years from now?     Whether you are a new volunteer tech person, a seasoned drummer, a hobby bass player, a flag waiver, a grouchy old guy, or whatever, God is seeking you.... the worshiper!  Lets gather to encourage each other in this challenging journey of corporate musical worship.

Worship Leader ESP

Dan Sigmon from Manor Church will share 10 Steps for ESP (Essential Service Planning) and practical, creative ideas he has developed over his career as a worship pastor in a variety of churches and cities.

Leadership Tools

Brett Lovern from Harvest Bible Chapel will share tools that help him effectively and efficiently lead his worship team. Everything from click tracks to online planning tools, and helpful apps.

Worship and Prayer Room

Dave Helmuth from Ad Lib Music will lead an extended worship and prayer time for anyone wanting to dwell in the word and worship.

Song Writing

Gary Buck from Petra Christian Fellowship will walk us through the spiritual discipline of song writing and why it is important.

Fake Plants and Set Design

Designer David Kern from EthosDesignCo will share some simple and easy ideas for changing the set and lighting in your space.

This event is designed for your WHOLE worship ministry! Bring them all and stay for lunch together.

Spiritual & Technical Formation

When we think of forming something… Anything… before starting, it’s best to know what the end product is supposed to look or sound like, and then make a plan to get there. Regarding worship, what truly is the end product or goal? This easily applies to both our spiritual walk with God and also to audio/visual technology. Join us as we get back to the basics and focus on God’s call for worship ministry. All are welcome.

individually and as a band. This event will be focused on helping each main component of a worship band. Learn from local musicians and worship pastors sharing their talent and

2010.07.19 - Guitar Workshop

Guitar Workshop

How often do you practice playing your instrument? "Practice makes perfect" right..?  Or maybe it could be said that practice makes you a blessing (trained and skilled) rather than a distraction during rehersal and congregational worship. But what if you practice all the time but are finding it so difficult to really get to that next level of skills?  Whether you're the worship leader or a supporting guitarist, we each can learn a few things about the dynamic role of the six strings. Maybe you even consider yourself a seasoned musician who never really invested a lot of time into advancing your skills on the guitar. Join us.

Worship coach Dave Helmuth will be breaking it down with us on July 19th. His music degree and 20 years in leading and coaching worship will be well worth a Monday evening (check him out at adlib music).  We won't be learning how to play C#minor or what a capo is for nor will you be learning how to play like a rocking lead like Lincoln Brewster.  If you're already playing guitar on the worship team, there's a good chance you're already familiar with basic guitar techniques.  What we will do is give you a few tricks to add to your guitar case. Cut Capo and moderately advanced guitar technique is the realm we're getting into here. Bring your guitar and maybe a music stand. Bring your less advanced guitar players too...  The beginner may not catch everything but will have the greatest opportunity to learn!  Let's get better. Lets get more advanced and skilled as lead worshippers.

A few minutes late on arrival, then printing another chord chart or two, and catching up on this week's small talk and the usual goofing around. Yes, a quick prayer. Ok. Now Johny can't play in that key and Selma is leaving early. The transition to this song doesn't work at all. Hey Lincoln Brewster wannabe, dial it down brother... And enough with the cell phones already! Seconds turn into minutes and before you know it, BAM! We've only went through half the songs for Sunday and everyone wants to go home. Where did our time go? What do we do now? [end flashback]

How does your team practice? Have you ever gotten into the preverbial "rut"? Would a fresh look at what a practice can look like be helpful to your worship team? Maybe you can share with us what works well for your team. Worship Coach Dave Helmuth will walk us through a full band practice of two contemporary worship songs. In addition to his 20 yrs experience as a worship leader, Dave is the face of Ad Lib Music "helping leaders bear much fruit". He has worked with many churches in Lancaster County and is a regular worship leader at Life Center Minstries International in Harrisburg. After practice we'll be ordering pizza for anyone who wants to hang around so bring a few dollars to contribute..
